We are recruiting for a Group Environmental, Health and Safety Manager. Reporting to the CEO, this a groupwide role covering all divisions and liaising with existing Environment, Health and Safety resources already embedded in those divisions.
The role will be a lead EHS Manager for the Group, with overall accountability for the Company’s environmental, health and safety responsibilities. Setting out overarching Group EHS standards, policies and targets to ensure the Company fulfils all regulatory requirements and meets the expected industry performance levels as required by various stakeholders relevant to the various operating divisions within the Group.
The role will work closely with the embedded EHS roles within ACDG and Projects, but will also provide more focused, hands on, operational EHS support to Group Services, EFS, Machinery Imports and Palfinger UK divisions.
Hours:
Monday – Friday, 39 hours per week. Regular travel to other depots as required, including travel to depots at Falkirk, Bradford, Leicester, Dartford (some of which might require overnight stays).
Key Duties will Include:
1. Health & Safety Management
• Establish a Group health & safety steering group involving divisional H&S resources to inform
divisional directors, set out Group standards and drive improvement programmes
• Reporting processes to CEO, Divisional Directors and Board as required
• Promote a proactive safety culture across the organisation
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and groupwide accreditations or
stakeholder requirements
• Assist with division specific accreditations or stakeholder requirements
• Refine, develop and implement workplace health and safety policies and procedures
• Work with relevant technical personnel within divisions to improve robustness of risk
assessments and hazard analyses
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and implement corrective actions
• Ensure learnings are communicated Groupwide or to other relevant divisions
2. Environmental Compliance
• Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and standards
• Drafting and implementation of effective policies and processes
• Advise and assist with waste disposal, emissions control, and pollution prevention programs
• Lead sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with ESOS Energy Management standards, ISO 14001 or equivalent environmental standards (where they exist / apply)
• Ensure statistical readiness pre audit
• Liaison with Group Data Administrator and Group Fleet and Transport Manager and other key figures relating to ESOS systems and reporting
• Reporting processes to CEO, Divisional Directors and Board as required
3. Training & Awareness
• Advise and implement on required EHS training programs for employees and management
• Ensure staff understand safety procedures, emergency protocols, and safe work practice
4. Auditing & Reporting
• Conduct internal audits and coordinate external inspections
• Prepare EHS performance reports, KPIs, and compliance documentation
• Track incidents, environmental impact metrics, and corrective actions
5. Emergency Preparedness
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans
• Coordinate drills (fire, chemical spill, evacuation, etc.)
• Act as lead contact during emergencies and liaise with authorities
6. Stakeholder Management
• Collaborate with operational teams, HR, and senior leadership
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors
• Support contractors and suppliers in meeting EHS requirements
7. Role Specification / Competencies (Other)
• Ongoing and real interest in EHS advancements, articles and study, keeping abreast of latest developments and good practice
• Monitoring health and safety costs
• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with divisional directors, senior managers and managers across all of the divisions.
The Ideal Applicant:
PERSON SPECIFICATION / COMPETENCIES
– NEBOSH diploma in occupational health and safety, or equivalent
– IOSH membership, or working towards membership
– Proven track record in environmental management
– Experience in in setting HSE strategy and managing HSE disciplines at a senior level
– Confident communicator with passion for coaching and driving improvement
– Tenacious and resilient character
– Experience of workshop environments, engineering disciplines and CDM projects advantageous
